Double the Sweetness-Twin Cake Smash

I had the honor of photographing this adorable set of twins, for their first birthday. Not only do you get to capture each baby experiencing that big first birthday milestone, but you also get to watch them experience it together. The curiosity, the reactions, the laughs, and all those little twin interactions that make the session uniquely theirs. This sweet brother-and-sister duo came into my home studio in Pelham, NH for their first birthday cake smash, and they were so much fun to photograph.

And then it was time for the cake!

Their personalities really started to shine once the cakes came out.

Sister was ready to go. She dove right in and immediately understood exactly what this whole cake situation was about. She had just as much fun smashing and playing with her cake as she did sampling it!

Brother, on the other hand, was a little more intrigued by what his sister was so excited about. He watched her carefully, taking it all in before deciding that maybe she was onto something. Once he figured out what all the fuss was about, he joined in — although he was definitely a bit more intentional with his tasting.



Watching them experience the cake smash together was one of my favorite parts of their session. Their different reactions made for such fun images, and those little moments between them are exactly what make photographing twins so special.

Mom made the cakes herself, which made their session even more personal.

For cake smash sessions, I give families the option to bring their own cake or purchase one from a local baker I regularly work with. There’s no right or wrong choice , it’s completely up to what works best for your family and the look you have in mind.

These twins’ session took place in my home studio in Pelham, New Hampshire, where I have the space to create a variety of cake smash and milestone setups.

I love being able to customize each session around the birthday child and their family. From a simple white-on-white setup to something more colorful or themed.
